SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Jeffrey G. "Jeff" Bland of Springfield,
4who passed away on August 10, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jeff Bland was born in Chicago to Edward and Alma
6Bland on November 25, 1957; he graduated from Southeast High
7School and attended Lincoln Land Community College; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Jeff Bland was employed at the Northfolk and
9Western Railroad and the Commonwealth Edison Power Plant; he
10worked as a security guard for the State of Illinois; he
11retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation in 2007,
12where he worked as a highway maintainer; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Jeff Bland was an active member of the community;
14he served as a precinct committeeman and as a member of the
15Democratic Minority Caucus; he was a deputized registrar for
16Sangamon County and the treasurer of the Ernie Bankhead
17Neighborhood Association; he also served as the chairman of the
18Political Action Committee for the Faith Coalition for the
19Common Good; he was a member of the Protective Order of Elks of
20the World, Inc. and a Teamster of Local 916 of Springfield; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Jeff Bland committed to his faith on May 8, 2008;

1he was an active member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church,
2where he served as a trustee and a mentor to the youth
3ministry; his greatest joy was working with young members of
4the church; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jeff Bland was preceded in death by his parents;
6and
 
7    WHEREAS, Jeff Bland is survived by his daughter, Jasmine
8Bland; his grandchildren, Essence, Emmorie, Jeffrey, and
9Yessiah Bland; his sister, Linda (Don) Williams; many other
10family members and friends, including Mr. and Mrs. Cox, Mr. and
11Mrs. Williamson, Mr. and Mrs. Ewing, Mr. and Mrs. Turner,
12Ernest Holman, Glenn Weir, and Rodney Myles; and EdWinicia
13(Leonard) Townsend, Edward Ray, Michael, and Chris Roseberry,
14and Kathy Baxter and family; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17Jeffrey G. "Jeff" Bland and extend our sincere condolences to
18his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
19further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Jeff Bland as an expression of our
22deepest sympathy.
