SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Lester La Verne Wherry of Rock Island,
4who passed away on August 13, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lester Wherry was born in Eliza Township in Mercer
6County to Alden and Lila (Loving) Wherry on May 31, 1932; he
7graduated from Joy High School in 1950 and served in the U.S.
8Air Force during the Korean War; he married Carley Fisher at
9the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa on June 14, 1958; and
 
10    WHEREAS, After his service, Lester Wherry worked at
11Wherry's Tavern in Joy; he then worked for Oscar Mayer in
12Davenport for 33 years, retiring in 1993; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Lester Wherry's memberships included Milan
14American Legion Post No. 569, Galesburg Moose, and the
15Mississippi Valley Country and Western Music Association; he
16enjoyed traveling, deer hunting, music, dancing, and hound
17dogs, especially "Flying Lady"; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Lester Wherry was preceded in death by his wife,
19Carley; his sons, Dana and Douglas Wherry; his sister and
20brother-in-law, Vada and Aldus Gridley; and his parents; and

1    WHEREAS, Lester Wherry is survived by his son, David
2(Mariann) Wherry; his niece, Linda (Tom) Williams; his
3great-nieces, Amanda Williams and Tarrah Smith; his
4great-great nieces, Lydia and Emily Skelton; and his special
5friend, Joy Norton and her family; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
8Lester La Verne Wherry and extend our sincere condolences to
9his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
10further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Lester Wherry as an expression of
13our deepest sympathy.
