SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of William Jens Moellering of Rock Island,
4who passed away on August 8, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, William Moellering was born in Rock Island to
6Grover "Pete" and Christine Wadsager Moellering on July 10,
71927; he graduated from Rock Island High School; and
 
8    WHEREAS, William Moellering served in the U.S. Navy during
9World War II, where he sailed on the USS Donald W. Wolff in the
10Pacific from 1944 to 1946; he enjoyed passing time and
11entertaining his fellow sailors by playing the alto saxophone,
12which he learned how to play as a young boy; he was honored to
13participate in an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. in 2009; and
 
14    WHEREAS, William Moellering married Barbara Holland at
15First Christian Church in Rock Falls on March 13, 1955, and
16they settled in Rock Island; and
 
17    WHEREAS, William Moellering retired from Caterpillar in
181988 after 22 years of service; he previously worked for Servus
19Rubber, Rock Island Water Reservoir, Crompton's Service
20Station, Rock Island and Bettendorf, J.I. Case, Prudential
21Insurance, and Trinity Episcopal Church in Rock Island; and

1    WHEREAS, William Moellering was a member of Memorial
2Christian Church in Rock Island since 1959; he was a member of
3the Rock Island Masonic Lodge #658 for 34 years and spent 26
4years with the Boy Scouts, where he served as the chaplain,
5assistant leader, chairman of advancements, and chairman of
6popcorn and Tom Watt sales; he also served on the Eagle Review
7Board for the Chief Blackhawk District; he was a member of the
8former Rock Island V.F.W. Post 1303 and participated in the
9CCC, Fort Armstrong Campers, Caterpillar Campers, Friends of
10the Rock Island Library, RSVP, and the QCCA; he spent 23 years
11playing the alto saxophone in a band, New Horizons, at
12C.A.S.I.; and
 
13    WHEREAS, William Moellering enjoyed fishing, hunting,
14watching the Cubs and Bears play, painting, woodworking, jigsaw
15puzzles, gemstone jewelry making, traveling, flower and
16vegetable gardening, volunteering at QCCA trade shows,
17homemade wine making, and playing the saxophone; he was also an
18avid reader of World War II history; he loved all his children
19and grandchildren and especially enjoyed watching them play
20sports; he even loved his cats; and
 
21    WHEREAS, William Moellering was preceded in death by his
22parents; his sister, Dorothy Ryan; and several cousins; and

1    WHEREAS, William Moellering is survived by his wife,
2Barbara; his children, Barbara (Lonnie) Jacobs, Judy (Jerry)
3Mader, Cheryl (Rob) Faust, Bill Moellering, and Ken (Eve)
4Moellering; his grandchildren, Kathy Steele, Wendy Lionheart,
5Greg Minear, Jason Mader, Joshua Mader, Erin Borst, Brittany
6Haberthur, Lance Moellering, Emily Moellering, Calla
7Moellering, and Chloe Moellering; and his great-grandchildren,
8Dante, Shania, Stella, Ruby, Kira, Tucker, Sophia, Lucy, and
9the soon expected, Baby J; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12William Jens Moellering and extend our sincere condolences to
13his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of William Moellering as an expression
17of our deepest sympathy.
