SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Calvin Raymond Smith of Hillsdale, who
4passed away on May 21, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Calvin Smith was born in Hillsdale to Edward and
6Lilias (Hart) Smith on May 26, 1929; he married Donna Jean
7Strause in Muscatine, Iowa on August 20, 1950; he served as an
8infantryman in the United States Army during the Korean War and
9was awarded a Purple Heart; he was discharged from active duty
10in 1952 and from the reserves in 1956; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Calvin Smith was employed at International
12Harvester for 30 years and retired in 1980; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Calvin Smith was a member of the Hillsdale
14American Legion for over 55 years; he joined the Jolly Rogers
15Camping Club in 1969; he enjoyed spending mornings at the Shell
16station with the guys, bird watching, and doing word puzzles;
17he was a handyman; most of all, he loved spending time with his
18family; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Calvin Smith was preceded in death by his parents;
20his wife, Donna Jean; his granddaughter, Dawn Marie Vroman; his
21brothers, Ivry and Dale Smith and two in infancy; and his

1sister, Kay Elaine Parsons; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Calvin Smith is survived by his children, Marvin
3(Cindy) Smith, Clayton (Susan) Smith, Pamela Vroman, Lois
4Coleman, and Tina (Michael) Fulton; his sisters, Beverly Baker,
5Darlene (Virgil) Koch, Barbara Gerdes, and Bernice (Bill)
6Wainwright; his 13 grandchildren; and his 25
7great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10Calvin Raymond Smith and extend our sincere condolences to his
11family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Calvin Smith as an expression of our
15deepest sympathy.
