SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Ana (Agavnie) Paparigian of Waukegan, who
4passed away on May 3, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ana Paparigian was born in Baku, Azerbaijan to
6Haroutiun and Nevart (Der Manuelian) Kasparian on December 15,
71920; her parents were early refugees from the Armenian
8genocide; the family emigrated to Cuba, where she excelled in
9school; on September 26, 1946, she emigrated to the United
10States; she married Merron Paparigian of Waukegan; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Ana Paparigian was a professional seamstress
12along the North Shore area with clients ranging from brides and
13performers to politicians and professionals; her talent was
14creating stylish clothing without the need for extensive
15measuring; later in life, she completed approximately 1,000
16crocheted afghans for family and friends across the United
17States, Armenia, Poland, Nagorno Karabagh, Cuba, and Mexico;
18and
 
19    WHEREAS, Ana Paparigian was a founding member of the St.
20George Armenian Apostolic Church of Waukegan and a past
21president of the Women's Guild; she served the church in many
22capacities, including as a member of the altar guild and a chef

1for bake sales and picnics; she taught herself English,
2Armenian, and Spanish and served as a translator for the grade
3schools and legal community of Waukegan; she was an unofficial
4ambassador for the Armenian community in Waukegan and regaled
5visitors with her knowledge of the community's history; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Ana Paparigian was preceded in death by her
7parents; her husband, Merron; her brother, Gaspar Kasparian;
8and her great-grandson, Nickolas Wolf Knight; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Ana Paparigian is survived by her children, Nvart
10Riley and Nishan (Joan) Paparigian; her sisters, Estrella
11(Arpenig) Kasparian and Sara Perez Kasparian; her
12grandchildren, Dr. Summer Knight, Adam Sharani, Jefri (Naomi)
13Sharani, Chelsea (Jason) French, and Cory (Heather)
14Paparigian; her seven great-grandchildren; and her many
15nieces, nephews, and dear friends; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Ana (Agavnie) Paparigian and extend our sincere condolences to
19her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
20further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Ana Paparigian as an expression of
