SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of William R. Powell of Colona, who passed
4away on April 7, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, William Powell was born in Wayne, Indiana to Roy
6and Carolyn Fegley Powell on March 17, 1932; he served in the
7United States Army during the Korean War and married Nora Myers
8in Colona on December 26, 1954; he later married Mary Jane
9Fleming Kent in Colona on September 10, 2010; and
 
10    WHEREAS, William Powell worked as an inspector for John
11Deere Harvester, retiring in 1982 after 37 years of service; he
12was a volunteer ambulance driver for the Cambridge Fire
13Department and a courier for Blackhawk Bank and Trust; and
 
14    WHEREAS, William Powell was a member of the United Auto
15Workers in East Moline and the First Baptist Church of Colona;
16he was a former Master Mason at Clement Lodge 680 A.F.& A.M.
17and a board member for the Henry County Crime Stoppers, where
18he was involved with the Fingerprinting Children Program; he
19was also a ham radio operator; and
 
20    WHEREAS, William Powell was preceded in death by his first
21wife, Nora; his parents; his infant son, Robert F. Powell; and

1his son, Carroll Eugene Powell; and
 
2    WHEREAS, William Powell is survived by his wife, Mary Jane;
3his daughter, Sharon (Laurie) Young; his son, William F.
4(Marlah) Powell; his stepson, David (Sharon) Clementz; his
5foster children, Donald, Terry, and Michael (Wendy) Powell; his
6grandchildren, William (Nikki) Powell, Erin Elizabeth
7(Patrick) Woods, and Anastasia (Joe) Billet; and 10
8great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11William R. Powell and extend our sincere condolences to his
12family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of William Powell as an expression of
16our deepest sympathy.
