SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Steve Stroud of Elgin, who passed away on
4April 5, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Steve Stroud was born in Aurora to James and
6Eunice (Rudolf) Stroud on November 23, 1942; he served in the
7United States Army from 1960 until 1963; he married Laura in
81992; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Steve Stroud worked as a foreign language teacher
10and retired in 1993; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Steve Stroud was a noted historical researcher and
12preservationist; well known for his passion for research into
13old local homes and cemeteries, his interest in local history
14was sparked by a book about the old, lost homes of Chicago; he
15was the author of There Used to Be, a three-volume series about
16the history and architecture of old homes in Elgin, and Silent
17City: A History of Elgin's City Cemeteries; he created a
18website that highlighted many of the city's historic bungalows
19and was working on a second website to chronicle the lost homes
20of the city; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Steve Stroud served on the board of the Elgin

1History Museum, where he volunteered three times a week and,
2along with his wife, co-chaired the annual Bluff City Cemetery
3walk; he also served on the design review subcommittee for the
4city's heritage commission; he paid regular visits to the Elgin
5Township Assessor's office, whose basement was his treasure
6trove; he will be remembered as a tenacious and caring member
7of the city who did a lot to advance Elgin's reputation; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Steve Stroud was preceded in death by his parents;
9his siblings, Michael Stroud and Patricia Stroud; and his
10stepdaughter, Anne Beauregard; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Steve Stroud is survived by his wife, Laura; his
12stepson, Scott Beauregard; his brother, Tom (Francine) Stroud;
13his sister-in-law, Georgette Neumann; his grandchildren,
14Gabriel and Rowan Beauregard and Jacqueline and Kaitlin
15Graziano; his nieces and nephews; and his many friends;
16therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
19Steve Stroud and extend our sincere condolences to his family,
20friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Steve Stroud as an expression of our
