SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Archie Melvin Strandlund of Moline, who
4passed away on March 16, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Archie Strandlund was born in Mora, Minnesota to
6Leo and Ethel Billstrom Strandlund on January 16, 1921; he
7served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and became a "plank
8owner" when he was assigned to the commissioning crew of the
9USS New Jersey, which became the Navy's most decorated
10battleship; he was a Gunner's Mate Second Class and manned a
1140-millimeter anti-aircraft gun during combat operations in
12the Pacific; he married Lavina Dillman on June 6, 1945; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Archie Strandlund was a tool and die maker with
14John Deere Farm Implement Manufacturers and John Deere Plow and
15Planter for 37 years, retiring in 1983; he continued to take
16classes and teach for 20 years in the Davenport Community
17School District and community college machine technology
18programs; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Archie Strandlund enjoyed reading books written
20in Swedish in his spare time; his home workshop was open to
21all, and if he could not make a repair, the project could be
22deemed "unfixable"; and

1    WHEREAS, Archie Strandlund was preceded in death by his
2wife of 73 years, Lavina; his parents; his brother, Ernest; and
3his sister, Jeanne; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Archie Strandlund is survived by his daughter,
5Gloria (John) Vana; his son, Roger (Carol) Strandlund; his
6grandchildren, Craig (Rouxle) Vana, Kristin Vana, Amy (Travis)
7Jargo, and Tim Strandlund; his great-grandchildren, Natalie
8Roelofse Vana and Heidi Lavina Vana; his brothers, Marvin,
9Vernon, and John; his sister, Louise Broehl; and numerous
10nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Archie Melvin Strandlund and extend our sincere condolences to
14his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Archie Strandlund as an expression
18of our deepest sympathy.
