SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The State of Illinois recognizes the need for
3clean waterways, whether a large or small body of water,
4whether rural, urban, or suburban in location, for public
5safety, for public recreation, for economic benefit, and for
6historical character; and
 
7    WHEREAS, The third Saturday of September is recognized
8globally as "International Coastal Cleanup Day" and is
9coordinated by the Ocean Conservancy and promoted by various
10like-minded Illinois partner organizations; and
 
11    WHEREAS, The coalition of Illinois Global Scholar
12stakeholders, acting for the benefit of students in Illinois
13and working to promote Public Act 099-0780, are partnering with
14organizations to ensure the protection, restoration, and
15health of Illinois waterways; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Service learning promotes effective student
17growth opportunities, and a statewide coordinated week of
18action will facilitate active citizen engagement, with a focus
19on active student engagement in learning and effective
20environmental improvement through trash collection, data
21collection, and data analysis; and

1    WHEREAS, To coordinate with the International Coastal
2Cleanup Day effort, partner organizations and schools across
3Illinois will facilitate the opportunity for student
4participant groups in the State to partner with other student
5participant groups in different countries, providing students
6in Illinois with the opportunity to communicate and collaborate
7globally and discuss and share their efforts and findings;
8therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare the calendar
11week containing the third Saturday of September 2019 as
12Illinois Waterway Cleanup Week in the State of Illinois.
