SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of George Gnatovich of Rock Island, who
4passed away on January 5, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, George Gnatovich was born in East Moline to
6Nicholas and Mary Perkovich Gnatovich on May 27, 1926; he
7graduated from East Moline High School in 1944; he then began
8serving in the United States Navy, where he fought in the South
9Pacific on a Destroyer Escort, the U.S.S. Duffy; he married Joy
10Skiles in Moline in 1949; and
 
11    WHEREAS, George Gnatovich began his career with his
12brother, Sam, at Tri City Food in Moline; they went on to build
13and own Highland Park Bowl; they later owned Sammy G Lanes; and
 
14    WHEREAS, George Gnatovich was a member of St. George Greek
15Orthodox Church; he enjoyed golfing, bowling, and playing
16cards, expecially euchre; he was known for his ability to tell
17jokes; one of his happiest moments was playing free golf at
18Golfmohr after he turned 90; for many decades, he, his brother,
19John, and their mother had lunch together every Monday; after
20their mother's death, they continued the tradition, which grew
21into what they called the "Monday Lunch Club," and, upon his
22retirement, George's son, Mark, joined; and

1    WHEREAS, George Gnatovich was preceded in death by his
2parents; his wife, Joy; his son, George Jr.; and his brother,
3Sam; and
 
4    WHEREAS, George Gnatovich is survived by his son, Mark
5Gnatovich; his grandchildren, Lee, Mark "Nick," and Brandy; his
6great-grandchild, Devin; his brother, John Gnatovich; and his
7many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10George Gnatovich and extend our sincere condolences to his
11family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of George Gnatovich as an expression of
15our deepest sympathy.
