SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
ILCON Art. XIII, Sec. 3

    Proposes to amend the General Provisions Article of the Illinois Constitution. Provides that the oath of office for each prospective holder of a State office shall include an affirmation to protect and honor the diversity of the people of Illinois. Effective upon being declared adopted.

CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT

 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
5CONCURRING HEREIN, that there shall be submitted to the
6electors of the State for adoption or rejection at the general
7election next occurring at least 6 months after the adoption of
8this resolution a proposition to amend Section 3 of Article
9XIII of the Illinois Constitution as follows:

GENERAL PROVISIONS

12    (ILCON Art. XIII, Sec. 3)
13SECTION 3. OATH OR AFFIRMATION OF OFFICE
14    Each prospective holder of a State office or other State
15position created by this Constitution, before taking office,
16shall take and subscribe to the following oath or affirmation:
17    "I do solemnly swear (affirm) that I will support the
18Constitution of the United States, and the Constitution of the
19State of Illinois, and protect and honor the diversity of the
20people of this great State as provided in the Illinois Human
21Rights Act, and that I will faithfully discharge the duties of
22the office of .... to the best of my ability."

SCHEDULE
2    This Constitutional Amendment takes effect upon being
3declared adopted in accordance with Section 7 of the Illinois
4Constitutional Amendment Act.
