SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The success of our children and communities, as
3well as the prosperity of our State and nation, are
4significantly influenced by exemplary teachers throughout the
5State of Illinois who dedicate their time and their talents to
6ensuring our schools and our students excel in everything they
7do; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Teachers mold future citizens through guidance
9and education, providing the knowledge, support, and skills
10that will positively impact generations to come; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Every day, our teachers encounter students of
12widely-differing backgrounds, challenging them to meet high
13academic standards, while also teaching them to apply what they
14learn using critical thinking and problem-solving skills; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Our State and country's future depends on
16providing quality education to all students; in our complex and
17rapidly-changing economy, teachers lay the foundation for
18success by developing students' creative thinking,
19collaboration, and communication skills; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Teachers dedicate countless hours to preparing
21lessons, evaluating progress, counseling and coaching

1students, and performing community service, all with the
2ultimate goal of guaranteeing students' academic, social, and
3emotional well-being; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Through their service as mentors, coaches, and
5club sponsors, Illinois teachers model good citizenship and
6encourage students to give back to their communities; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Illinois teachers strive to instill in their
8students a lifelong love of learning and to encourage them to
9achieve their goals, while also recognizing that every student
10has unique strengths and needs; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
13CONCURRING HEREIN, that we celebrate the hard work and
14dedication of teachers in every school across Illinois and
15declare May 4-8, 2020 as Teacher Appreciation Week in the State
16of Illinois; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That we strongly encourage all members of our
18communities statewide to join in personally expressing
19appreciation to our teachers for their dedication and devotion
20to their work.
