AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 1916

2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 1916 by replacing
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:
 
4    "Section 5. The Department of State Police Law of the Civil
5Administrative Code of Illinois is amended by adding Section
62605-203 as follows:
 
7    (20 ILCS 2605/2605-203 new)
8    Sec. 2605-203. Crime scene investigators.
9    (a) The Department may appoint investigators to collect and
10preserve physical evidence, forensic art, forensic mapping,
11photography, sketches of crime scenes, diagrams and animations
12of crash and crime scenes, and any other related duties imposed
13under law administered by the Department.
14    (b) These investigators may exercise all the powers of
15peace officers for the purpose of crime scene investigation.
16    (c) These investigators shall satisfactorily complete: (1)

1a training program approved by the Department which
2substantially conforms to standards adopted under Section 7 of
3the Illinois Police Training Act or Department cadet class
4training; and (2) a firearm training course approved by the
5Department. These investigators shall continue to comply with
6annual training requirements as required by the Department.
7    (d) The Director may authorize each investigator employed
8under this Section and any other employee of the Department
9exercising the powers of a peace officer a distinct badge that,
10on its face:
11        (1) clearly states that the badge is authorized by the
12    Department;
13        (2) indicates his or her position of crime scene
14    investigator; and
15        (3) contains a unique identifying number.
16    (e) The Department may issue crime scene investigators a
17distinct uniform and dress code, which clearly distinguishes
18their position, separate from uniforms issued to State Police
19officers.".
