SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
105 ILCS 5/10-20.69 new
105 ILCS 5/34-18.61 new

    Amends the School Code. Provides that a qualified student may take any online course for academic credit if the course (i) aligns with the Illinois Learning Standards, (ii) meets or exceeds the same standards as course offerings of the school district, and (iii) is taught by an instructor who holds a Professional Educator License. Provides that a school district retains the right to deny credit for an online course based on course appropriateness, alignment with the high school curriculum, cost, or student academic progress. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning education.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Sections
510-20.69 and 34-18.61 as follows:
 
6    (105 ILCS 5/10-20.69 new)
7    Sec. 10-20.69. Equitable course access. A qualified
8student may take any online course for academic credit if the
9course (i) aligns with the Illinois Learning Standards, (ii)
10meets or exceeds the same standards as course offerings of the
11school district, and (iii) is taught by an instructor who holds
12a Professional Educator License under Article 21B. A school
13district retains the right to deny credit for an online course
14under this Section based on course appropriateness, alignment
15with the high school curriculum, cost, or student academic
16progress.
