AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 1506

2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 1506 by replacing
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:
 
4    "Section 1. Short title; references to Act.
5    (a) Short title. This Act may be cited as the Dense Breast
6Tissue Act.
7    (b) References to Act. This Act may be referred to as the
8Patti Beyer Act of Illinois.
 
9    Section 5. Applicability. This Act applies to a facility
10that provides mammography services in the State of Illinois.
 
11    Section 10. Breast cancer; duty of providers of mammography
12services to notify and inform.
13    (a) As used in this Section, "dense breast tissue" means
14heterogeneously dense or extremely dense tissue as defined in
15nationally recognized guidelines or systems for breast imaging

1reporting of mammography screening, including, but not limited
2to, the Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System of the
3American College of Radiology, and any equivalent new terms, as
4such guidelines or systems are updated.
5    (b) If a patient's mammogram demonstrates dense breast
6tissue, the provider of mammography services shall provide
7notification to the patient in the summary of the mammography
8report sent to the patient pursuant to the federal Mammography
9Quality Standards Act that shall include, but not be limited
10to, the following information:
11    "Your mammogram shows that your breast tissue is dense.
12Dense breast tissue is very common and is not abnormal.
13However, dense breast tissue can make it harder to find cancer
14on a mammogram and may also be associated with an increased
15risk of breast cancer.
16    This information about the result of your mammogram is
17given to you to raise your awareness. Use this information to
18talk to your doctor about your own risks for breast cancer. At
19that time, ask your doctor if more screening tests might be
20useful, based on your risk. A report of your results was sent
21to your physician.".

23    Section 90. The Department of Public Health Powers and
24Duties Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is
25amended by repealing Section 2310-697.".
