1    AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Department of Transportation Law of the
5Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is amended by changing
6Section 2705-210 as follows:
 
7    (20 ILCS 2705/2705-210)  (was 20 ILCS 2705/49.15)
8    Sec. 2705-210. Traffic control and prevention of
9accidents. The Department has the power to develop,
10consolidate, and coordinate effective programs and activities
11for the advancement of driver education, for the facilitation
12of the movement of motor vehicle traffic, and for the
13protection and conservation of life and property on the streets
14and highways of this State and to advise, recommend, and
15consult with the several departments, divisions, boards,
16commissions, and other agencies of this State in regard to
17those programs and activities. The Department has the power to
18aid and assist the counties, cities, towns, and other political
19subdivisions of this State in the control of traffic and the
20prevention of traffic accidents. That aid and assistance to
21counties, cities, towns, and other political subdivisions of
22this State shall include assistance with regard to planning,
23traffic flow, light synchronizing, preferential lanes for

1carpools, and carpool parking allocations.
2    To further the prevention of accidents, the Department
3shall conduct a traffic study following the occurrence of any
4accident involving a pedestrian fatality that occurs at an
5intersection of a State highway. The study shall include, but
6not be limited to, consideration of alternative geometric
7design improvements, traffic control devices, and any other
8improvements that the Department deems necessary. The
9Department shall make the results of the study available to the
10public on its website.

12    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
13becoming law.
