HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate their colleague
4Representative Mike Unes on the occasion of his retirement as
5State Representative of the 91st District after serving five
6distinguished terms in the General Assembly; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Representative Unes served as Assistant Minority
8Leader in the House of Representatives; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Representative Unes strived to do the very best
10for the people of his district, providing the constituent
11service that those citizens deserve and bringing forth
12legislation that bettered the lives of those citizens; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Representative Unes worked within his caucus and
14across the aisle to pass many pieces of important legislation,
15which resulted in a positive impact on the people of the State
16of Illinois, despite serving the entirety of his term in the
17minority party; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Representative Unes remained true to the
19principles of honesty and service to the State in the face of
20tough decisions and trying times; and

1    WHEREAS, Representative Unes served as a dedicated leader
2focused on an agenda for families of Fulton, Tazewell, and
3Peoria Counties that included fiscal responsibility,
4attracting employers back to Illinois, and reforming state
5government ethics; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Representative Unes received his bachelor's
7degree from Bradley University in 1996; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Representative Unes served on the East Peoria City
9Council, where he oversaw accounts and finance and served as
10mayor pro tem, from 2007 until he took office as a state
11representative; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Representative Unes has been recognized and has
13received many accolades for his outstanding work ethic and
14achievements, including being named East Peoria's
15Distinguished Citizen of the Year; he was also named Legislator
16of the Year by the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police,
17ABATE of Illinois, and the Illinois Healthcare Association; he
18was named an inaugural Edgar Fellow for his demonstrated
19positive leadership; he also received the Friend of Agriculture
20Award by the Illinois Farm Bureau and the Illinois Electric
21Cooperatives' Public Service Award; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Representative Unes has been honored for his

1commitment to improving Illinois' climate for employers; he was
2named a Champion of Free Enterprise three times by the Illinois
3Chamber of Commerce, which also named him Outstanding Freshman
4Legislator; he was recognized by the Illinois Manufacturers'
5Association multiple times for his commitment to Illinois
6manufacturing; in addition, he was thrice awarded the Guardian
7of Small Business Award by the National Federation of
8Independent Business/Illinois; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Representative Unes resides in East Peoria with
10his wife, Natalie, and their four children, Meghan, Nathan,
11Michelle, and Nicholas; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Representative Unes' commitment to public service
13and his business experience have been invaluable to the General
14Assembly and House Republican Caucus; and
 
15    WHEREAS, After his time in Springfield, Representative
16Unes will continue his commitment to service, working to
17improve central Illinois as Vice President of the UnityPoint
18Health - Central Illinois Foundation; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
20HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
21we honor State Representative Mike Unes for his work in the
22Illinois House of Representatives and wish him all the best on

1his retirement from the General Assembly; and be it further
 
2    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3presented to Representative Unes as an expression of our esteem
