HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Ida Grace
4Dotson of Chicago, who passed away on October 6, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ida Dotson was born to the late Percy and Bessie
6Carter in Russellville, Alabama on January 30, 1924; she was
7the youngest of six children, all of whom have preceded her in
8death; she moved from Alabama to Gary, Indiana at an early age
9and attended Froebel School; in 1949, she married her lifelong
10partner Leroy Dotson; they were together until his death in
112011; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Upon moving to Chicago, Ida Dotson worked for
13several years at Western Electric, Ritholds Glasses, and
14Illinois Bell before becoming a full-time homemaker; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Ida Dotson committed to her faith at an early age;
16she joined Greater Harvest Missionary Baptist Church under the
17pastoral leadership of the late Reverend Louis Boddie, where
18she sang in the choir and was a member of the Beacon light
19club; after the death of Reverend Boddie, she and several of
20her friends started a weekly bible study in her home that was
21known as the Universal Prayer Band; she then began attending
22the Bright Star Church of God in Christ; there, she served as a

1church mother, a missionary, a Sunday school teacher, and as a
2pastor's aide; in addition to serving her local church, she
3served at the district and state level; she was a licensed
4missionary and evangelist within the Sixth Ecclesiastical
5Jurisdiction of Illinois of the COGIC; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Ida Dotson is survived by her son, Pastor Timothy
7(Jenise); her three grandchildren, Timothy Jr., Tiffany
8Dotson-Cage (Zerome), and Troy; her three great-grandchildren,
9Zechariah, Zaiden, and Zander Cage; her sister-in-law, Mary
10Carter; and her host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends;
11therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
13HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
14we mourn the passing of Ida Grace Dotson and extend our sincere
15condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
16her; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Ida Dotson as an expression of our
19deepest sympathy.
