HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to commend Mayor William D. "Bill" McLeod
4for his 40 years of public service to the Village of Hoffman
5Estates; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod was first elected mayor of the
7Village of Hoffman Estates in April 2001, after serving as
8acting mayor since September 2000; he was reelected in April
92005, April 2009, April 2013, and April 2017; previously, he
10served as village trustee from September 1980 to April 2001;
11and
 
12    WHEREAS, During his tenure, Mayor McLeod has dedicated
13himself to the growth and sustainability of Hoffman Estates in
14the areas of economic development and business retention,
15housing, infrastructure, and transportation; he has also
16prioritized intergovernmental relationships and is active on
17local, regional, and state committees to ensure residents and
18business owners receive the best representation; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod successfully advocated for the
20creation of an Economic Development Committee and was
21instrumental in the creation of the Hoffman Estates Historical
22Museum; he helped spearhead and guide the development of the

1highly visible Barrington Interchange; in 2018 and 2019, he
2worked with the Hoffman Estates Board and Village staff to
3secure a multi-million dollar deal with Somerset Development to
4convert the former AT&T campus into a thriving "metroburb",
5which will create an exciting, walkable downtown-style
6centerpiece for Hoffman Estates and will include 1.2 million
7square feet of office space, 60,000 square feet of restaurant
8and retail space, and 60,000 square feet of conference
9facilities, storage, and amenities; he is working for the
10further redevelopment of the Village Green as part of the
11Hoffman Estates entertainment district; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod is a long-standing supporter of the
13environment; he is one of 1,000 U.S. Mayors to sign The U.S.
14Conference of Mayors' Climate Protection Agreement; he is
15working for village sustainability and promoting wind and solar
16projects in Hoffman Estates; he is also working on bike paths,
17both on-street and designated lanes, as a priority project; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod has served as a representative of
19Hoffman Estates in a number of organizations, including the
20Schaumburg Regional Air Park Board, the Regional Cable Group,
21WINGS, the Children's Advocacy Center, and the Cook County
22Suburban PACE Board; he represents Hoffman Estates at the
23Northwest Municipal Conference, where he previously served as
24president and chair of its Economic Development Committee,

1co-chair of the Legislative Committee, and chair of the
2Transportation Committee; he serves as a member of the
3Transportation Steering Committee and the Communications
4Committee with the U.S. Conference of Mayors; he serves as a
5director of the Joint Action Water Agency and is a former
6director of the Greater Woodfield Convention and Visitors
7Bureau; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Prior to serving as mayor, Mayor McLeod was a
9small business owner for 35 years, served as a legislative
10assistant to an Illinois State Representative for 4 years,
11served as a board member of the Greater Chicagoland Parents of
12the Hearing Impaired, and was president of the
13Castleford/Hearthstone Homeowners Association; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod enjoys reading, walking, history,
15and spending time with his family; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod is married to Joane; together, they
17have eight children and 12 grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
19HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
20we commend Mayor William D. "Bill" McLeod on his 40 years of
21public service to the Village of Hoffman Estates, and we
22recognize his commitment to the community and wish him

2    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3presented to Mayor McLeod as an expression of our esteem and
4respect.
