HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Patrick Magoon has served Ann & Robert H. Lurie
3Children's Hospital for over four decades; and
 
4    WHEREAS, As a result of Patrick Magoon's leadership, Ann &
5Robert Lurie Children's Hospital has become a world leader in
6pediatric medicine and science; and
 
7    WHEREAS, During Patrick Magoon's tenure, Ann & Robert Lurie
8Children's Hospital moved to a new state-of-the-art facility as
9a campus-affiliated institution of Northwestern University's
10Feinberg School of Medicine in 2012; he continued to work
11tirelessly on behalf of the children and families of the region
12and helped the hospital expand to 364 beds in the fall of 2019;
13and
 
14    WHEREAS, These beds are filled every night with patients
15from all over the world who have come to Chicago for
16specialized care and treatments that only Ann & Robert Lurie
17Children's Hospital can provide; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Since moving to the new hospital, the number of
19children served has increased by 50 percent, outpatient visits
20have grown by over 70 percent, research funding from the
21National Institutes of Health has quadrupled, and community

1benefit investment has risen to a level that exceeds $100
2million per year for the people and economy of greater Chicago;
3and
 
4    WHEREAS, Patrick Magoon has advocated tirelessly for
5matters of children's health at the state and federal levels
6and continues to provide the highest level of expertise to the
7Illinois Hospital Association's Medicaid reform efforts; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Patrick Magoon is a true civic leader who is
9driven professionally and personally by the idea that every
10child matters; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Patrick Magoon has shown a deep level of
12compassion for children and the men and women who love them; he
13has built a team that is dedicated to providing healthier
14futures for every child in the city, State, and beyond; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Patrick Magoon's relentless commitment to
16educating the next generation of pediatric physicians and
17scientists has resulted in robust residency and fellowship
18programs, training 256 residents and fellows and 160 graduating
19medical students, on average, each year; therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
21HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that

1we recognize the life, work, and leadership of Patrick Magoon
2of Ann & Robert Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago; and be it
3further
 
4    RESOLVED, That we declare April 28, 2020 as "Patrick Magoon
5Day" in the State of Illinois; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
7presented to Patrick Magoon, the Ann & Robert H. Lurie
8Children's Hospital of Chicago, and the Feinberg School of
9Medicine, Northwestern University.
