HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Alice Elizabeth
4Dandridge-Turner on the occasion of her 100th birthday on
5December 25, 2019; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Alice Dandridge-Turner was born to Berry and Sarah
7Dandridge on December 25, 1919; as a young child, she attended
8McKinney Elementary School and was a member of the New Sardis
9Missionary Baptist Church; she attended Lemoyne College in
10Memphis, Tennessee and Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee; she
11graduated cum laude from Wilberforce University in Dayton, Ohio
12and attended the Chicago Teacher's College; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Alice Dandridge-Turner settled in Chicago and
14taught on the West Side; she taught for 40 years, retiring in
151993; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Alice Dandridge-Turner is a published poet and
17sponsored an essay writing contest annually at the elementary
18school where she taught; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Alice Dandridge-Turner has a deep and abiding
20faith and attends Springfield Baptist Church; she is on the
21Mother's Board and has served as president; she believes in

1religious training and has worked many summers in her church's
2Vacation Bible School; she is also active with the Missionary
3Society; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Alice Dandridge-Turner is a member of the Foster
5Senior Club, where she is a "Golden Girl"; the group meets once
6a week to share laughs and play BINGO and take field trips;
7each year she participates in a fundraiser fashion show; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Alice Dandridge-Turner comes from a line of women
9who have lived for a century; most notably, her mother lived to
10be 101, and her grandmother on her father's side lived to be
11105; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
13HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
14we congratulate Alice Elizabeth Dandridge-Turner on her 100th
15birthday, and we wish her many more wonderful years; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to Alice Dandridge-Turner as a symbol of our respect
19and esteem.
