HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
3report that domestic violence or intimate partner violence is a
4serious public health issue for millions of individuals in the
5United States; nearly one in four women and one in nine men in
6the United States have suffered sexual violence, physical
7violence, or stalking by an intimate partner; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Transgender and gender non-conforming people face
9extraordinary levels of physical and sexual violence; over one
10in four transgender people have faced bias-driven assault; this
11rate is higher for trans women and trans people of color; and
 
12    WHEREAS, In 2014, approximately 65,800 intimate violence
13incidents were reported to Illinois law enforcement; many
14others went unreported; in between July 2013 and June 2014,
15there were 84 domestic violence-related deaths in Illinois,
16including 15 children; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
18HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
19we urge the U.S. Congress to reauthorize the Violence Against
20Women Act; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be

2Senate Majority Leader, the U.S. Senate Minority Leader, the
