HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened by the passing of Illinois State
4Police Trooper Nicholas Hopkins, who lost his life in the line
5of duty on August 23, 2019; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Trooper Hopkins was born on March 24, 1986 in Red
7Bud; he moved to Waterloo, where he graduated from Waterloo
8High School in 2004, and later, McKendree University in
9Lebanon; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Trooper Hopkins #6141 began his law enforcement
11career as a cadet with the Illinois State Police on June 1,
122009; he graduated from the academy and was assigned to
13District 12 in Effingham; on August 1, 2013, he took an
14assignment with the Illinois State Police general criminal
15unit; in November of 2013, he was assigned to District 11
16patrol in Collinsville; in February of 2016, he transferred to
17the Metro East Police Assistance Team, and in September of
182017, he was assigned to Illinois State Police S.W.A.T.; in
192018, he became a senior agent; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Trooper Hopkins was closely involved in his
21community, including as an active member of the Life Community
22Church, where he was recognized for his tireless discipline,

1willingness to help others, and unassailable sense of humor;
2and
 
3    WHEREAS, Trooper Hopkins was preceded in death by his
4paternal grandfather, Charles Hopkins; his maternal
5grandparents, John and Magdalen Janson; and his uncle and aunt,
6Robert "Bob" and Mardell Pelch; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Trooper Hopkins is survived by his wife, Whitney
8Hopkins; his children, Emma, Evelyn, and Owen; his parents,
9James and Verna Hopkins; his siblings, Valerie Dortch, Zack
10Hopkins, Emily Auffenberg, Gabe Hopkins, and Abby Hopkins; his
11grandmother, Evelyn Hopkins; as well as aunts, uncles, one
12niece, several nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
14HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
15we mourn the passing of Illinois State Police Trooper Nicholas
16Hopkins and extend our sincere condolences to his family,
17friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Trooper Hopkins as an expression of
20our deepest sympathy.
