HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Fred
4Richard Hunter Jr. of Chicago, who passed away on September 13,
52019; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Fred Hunter Jr. was born in Chicago to Ezzie Mae
7Jackson Hunter and Fred Richard Hunter Sr. on February 25,
81948; he committed to his faith at an early age and was
9baptized at Antioch M.B. Church; he attended Chicago Public
10Schools and graduated from Wendell Phillips High School in
111965; he received his Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor
12in French from Illinois State University; he received his
13Master of Arts in English from Chicago State University; a
14lifelong learner, he continued coursework related to his chosen
15field, including proposal writing, communications, and
16curriculum development, at a number of area colleges and
17universities; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Fred Hunter Jr. began his career in education with
19the Chicago Board of Education in 1969; he accepted assignments
20at Bowen High School, where he taught English, and Whitney
21Young High School, where he taught English, grammar,
22literature, and journalism and was the Faculty Advisor for the
23school newspaper, The Beacon; his classes were often

1fun-filled, creative, and challenging; he later worked as an
2editor for the Office of Instructional Services at the Chicago
3Public Schools Central Office; he retired from that department
4in 2004; after retirement, he worked for the Chicago Defender
5and started his own business, Fred's Ed Editorial Services; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Fred Hunter Jr. was active in his community and
7was a member of the National and Chicago Associations of Black
8Journalists; he was a member of the Antioch M.B. Church for
9many years; later, he transferred his membership to Mt. Pisgah
10M.B. Church, the church his mother attended for over 50 years,
11and was a member of the male chorus; he enjoyed spending time
12with his classmates from Wendell Phillips and Illinois State
13University, playing Bid Whist, dancing, playing tennis, and
14wearing his Green Bay Packers wool cap; he will be remembered
15for his good deeds and as a funny, considerate, caring person
16who put the needs of others before his own; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Fred Hunter Jr. is survived by his sister,
18Carolyn; his nephews, Lamar and Antoine; his godsons, Darian,
19David, and DuJuan; his Wendell Phillips and Illinois State
20families; his caregivers, Bobbie and Rosalyn; and many other
21relatives and friends; therefore, be it
 
22    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
23HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that

1we mourn the passing of Fred Richard Hunter Jr. and extend our
2sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
3and loved him; and be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to the family of Fred Hunter Jr. as an expression of
6our deepest sympathy.
