HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Kruta's Bakery on the
4occasion of its 100th anniversary; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Kruta's Bakery was founded in 1919 by Frank Kruta
6Sr., who emigrated from Russia after training in Germany to be
7a baker; the original bakery was located in two side-by-side
8shot-gun-style houses on 8th Street in East St. Louis; Frank
9was joined at the bakery by his wife, Anastatia (Stella), his
10four sons, and his daughter; the bakery was remodeled in 1945
11to accommodate the growing business; and
 
12    WHEREAS, After 55 years in East St. Louis, Frank's oldest
13son, Tony, and his wife, Sue, reopened the bakery in
14Collinsville in January 1974; Tony and Sue were joined by
15Tony's siblings, Frank Jr. and Stella and their sons, Joe and
16Jim Sr.; the bakery has flourished in Collinsville; and
 
17    WHEREAS, The Kruta family's business has become a staple in
18Madison County and a shining example of the American Dream
19fulfilled; the family business has survived many challenges,
20including long, hard hours of work, The Great Depression, and
21the loss of a family member at the Battle of the Bulge; and

1    WHEREAS, Today, the bakery is run by the third and fourth
2generations of the Kruta family; the family still uses some of
3the same recipes Frank Sr. brought with him from Eastern Europe
4and follows his commitment to baking from scratch using the
5highest-quality ingredients; they strive to maintain
6consistency throughout the decades, to run the bakery with the
7values of honesty, integrity, and hard work, and to treat their
8customers like family; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Kruta's Bakery will host an anniversary
10celebration on August 18, 2019, featuring live music, food from
11several Collinsville restaurants, and samples of cake and
12pastries; in an effort to give back to the community, the
13bakery has partnered with the American Warrior Initiative and
14is charging adults a small fee for the food offered at the
15celebration; the proceeds will be used to provide a local
16veteran in need with a service dog; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
18HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
19we congratulate Kruta's Bakery on the occasion of its 100th
20anniversary and wish the Kruta family many more successful
21years; and be it further
 
22    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
23presented to Kruta's Bakery as an expression of our esteem and
