HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Mayola
4"May" Smith, who passed away on May 31, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mayola Smith was born on February 11, 1938; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Mayola Smith was an Assistant Career Service
7Teacher at two Chicago Public Schools, Jens Jensen Elementary
8and Morris Elementary; she taught for over 25 years, retiring
9on June 30, 1998; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Mayola Smith was truly committed to the welfare
11and education of children; she was involved in numerous school
12functions, parent teacher conferences, and after school
13programs; she tutored children in reading and helped special
14education students; she chaperoned school activities; she
15decorated the school auditorium for the eight grade dances and
16decorated all the school bulletin boards; she even received an
17award for her decorating; the staff truly loved her and
18considered her a trend setter; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Mayola Smith helped any child who was in need,
20whether at school or in the neighborhood; she enjoyed talking
21to them about the "Good Old Days"; she was very talented in

1arts and crafts, and her decorating skills were in high demand
2for wedding receptions, family reunions, and parties; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Mayola Smith loved being around her family, roller
4skating, and singing and dancing to Stevie Wonder; she was a
5great problem solver and could often take your difficulty and
6solve it with laughter and a smile; she was one of a kind and
7touched the lives of many people, who will always remember her;
8therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
10HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
11we mourn the passing of Mayola "May" Smith and extend our
12sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew
13and loved her; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Mayola Smith as an expression of our
16deepest sympathy.
