HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Vet Centers were established by Congress with the
3signing of PL 96-22 on June 13, 1979, out of recognition that a
4significant number of Vietnam combat and era veterans were not
5accessing VA services; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The program's mission was expanded over the course
7of many years to include all conflict zone veterans, all
8veterans and active duty who experience sexual trauma while on
9military duty, bereavement counseling for family members,
10services for veterans who provided emergent medical care or
11mortuary services while on active duty, and members of
12utilizing unmanned aerial vehicle crews; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Vet Centers guide Veterans and their families
14through many of the major adjustments in lifestyle that often
15occur after a Veteran returns from combat and provide
16counseling, outreach, and referral for eligible veterans; Vet
17Center counselors and outreach staff, many of whom are Veterans
18themselves, are experienced and prepared to discuss the
19tragedies of war, loss, grief, and transition after trauma; and
 
20    WHEREAS, U.S. military veterans in the State of Illinois
21are served by 11 Vet Centers, 2 Mobile Vet Centers, and
22multiple community access points; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
2HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3we declare June 9-15, 2019 as Vet Center Week in Illinois in
4recognition of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of Vet
5Centers and their work helping veterans, active duty service
6members, and their families; and be it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
8presented to each of the 11 Vet Centers in the State of
9Illinois as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
