HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to commend John Slater on his dedication
4to the Boy Scouts of America; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Slater earned his Eagle Scout Award in 1938
6with Troop 814 and has continued to be a volunteer and leader
7most of his adult life; he has been an inspiration for
8countless young people, awarding them Good Citizenship
9Citations from the American Legion in the Midwest during their
10Eagle Scout Courts of Honor; truly one of the best examples of
11one who lives by the Scout Oath and Law, he is selfless in his
12service to others and has dedicated himself to guide others
13along that worthy path; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Over the years, John Slater has remained involved
15in the Boy Scouts of America; he is also actively involved in
16the American Legion and the Skokie VFW; he is an enthusiastic
17volunteer and supporter of the Friends of the Morton Grove
18Forest Preserve, the Chicago Botanic Garden, the Morton Grove
19Historical Society, and various other civic organizations in
20the community; and
 
21    WHEREAS, John Slater grew up and spent his early childhood
22in Chicago; he studied engineering at Iowa State University and

1joined the U.S. Army; he went directly to Officer Candidate
2School and was attached to the 77th Infantry Division during
3World War II; and
 
4    WHEREAS, John Slater and his family have lived in Morton
5Grove since 1960; he and his late wife, Mary Helen, have one
6son, Mark, who lives in Northern California; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
8HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
9we commend John Slater on his dedication to the Boy Scouts of
10America; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to John Slater as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
