HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Donald Trump shamefully rolled back the
3hard-fought progress of the LGBTQ+ community since the repeal
4of Don't Ask, Don't Tell by banning transgender Americans from
5serving in our country's military; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The Supreme Court of the United States wrongfully
7validated his attack on our brave service members by
8temporarily allowing the ban to go into effect; and
 
9    WHEREAS, In response to this hateful attack on service
10members by our country's very own commander-in-chief and the
11nation's highest court, United States Senator Tammy Duckworth,
12an Illinois hero, responded by stating that when she was
13bleeding to death in her Black Hawk helicopter on a dusty field
14in Iraq, she didn't care if the American troops risking their
15lives to help save her were gay, straight, transgender, black,
16white, male, or female; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Since taking office, Donald Trump and his
18extremist allies have worked to deny basic human rights to
19LGBTQ+ Americans; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Not only has Donald Trump's administration banned
21LGBTQ+ Americans from honorably serving our country, they have

1argued against people qualifying for Title VII protection under
2civil rights legislation, which would allow people to be fired
3for their sexual orientation with no grounds for legal
4recourse; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Donald Trump's administration has revoked
6guidelines that protected LGBTQ+ youth in their schools; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Donald Trump's administration has halted or
8rolled back regulations intended to protect LGBTQ+ Americans
9from discrimination in health care settings; and
 
10    WHEREAS, These attacks on our fellow Americans are an
11affront to the founding principles of our nation; and
 
12    WHEREAS, In a time of dangerous, anti-democratic rhetoric
13on the rise across the world, Donald Trump's actions hinder our
14country's standing in the world as a leader of justice and
15equality; and
 
16    WHEREAS, The State of Illinois values and respects the
17inherent worth of every person, regardless of gender identity
18and sexual orientation; and
 
19    WHEREAS, The State of Illinois will continue fighting for
20every one of its citizens by continuing to enact state-level

1protections that support the LGBTQ+ community; and
 
2    WHEREAS, People throughout the State of Illinois have gone
3to great lengths to be allies and support our fellow LGBTQ+
4residents by planning pride festivities in communities like
5Chicago, Carbondale, Aurora, and Buffalo Grove; therefore, be
6it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
8HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
9we condemn Donald Trump's blatant bigotry and discriminatory
10policies against the LGBTQ+ community, whose perseverance and
11battle for justice embody the true spirit of our union, a
12spirit which calls on us to perfect our union by correcting the
13wrongs in society until we are all truly equal; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to BG Pride, Mundelein LGBT Alliance and Allies, and
17to all members of the Illinois Congressional Delegation.
