SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
510 ILCS 70/6.5 new

    Amends the Humane Care for Animals Act. Provides that no person may knowingly allow an animal to ingest cannabis, including second-hand smoke, or cannabis-infused products in a way that results in the animal's sickness or death. Provides that a first violation is a Class A misdemeanor, and a second or subsequent violation is a Class 4 felony. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning local government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Humane Care for Animals Act is amended by
5adding Section 6.5 as follows:
 
6    (510 ILCS 70/6.5 new)
7    Sec. 6.5. Animal ingestion of cannabis or cannabis-infused
8product.
9    (a) As used in this Section, "cannabis" and
10"cannabis-infused product" have the meanings given to those
11terms in the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act.
12    (b) No person may knowingly allow an animal to ingest
13cannabis, including second-hand smoke, or cannabis-infused
14products in a way that results in the animal's sickness or
15death.
16    (c) A person convicted of violating this Section is guilty
17of a Class A misdemeanor. A second or subsequent violation is a
18Class 4 felony.
 
19    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
20becoming law.
