SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
35 ILCS 200/3-50

    Amends the County Assessment Officials Article of the Property Tax Code. Provides that on the expiration of the term of the county assessor in office (in counties with 3,000,000 or more inhabitants) on the effective date of the amendatory Act, the county assessor shall be appointed by the president of the county board of commissioners and subject to confirmation and oversight by the county board of commissioners.

1    AN ACT concerning local government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Property Tax Code is amended by changing
5Section 3-50 as follows:
 
6    (35 ILCS 200/3-50)
7    Sec. 3-50. Election of county assessors - Counties of
83,000,000 or more. In all counties with 3,000,000 or more
9inhabitants, the office of county assessor, heretofore created
10and established, is hereby continued.
11    On the expiration of the term of the county assessor in
12office on the effective date of this amendatory Act of the
13101st General Assembly, the The county assessor shall be
14appointed by the president of the county board of commissioners
15and subject to confirmation and oversight by the county board
16of commissioners elected as provided in the general election
17law, at the general election in 1994 and every fourth year
18thereafter to hold office for a term of 4 years from the first
19Monday of December, and until a successor is elected and
20qualified. Any vacancy in office shall be filled by appointment
21as provided in the general election law, until the next regular
22election of county officers when a successor shall be elected
23for the unexpired term or for the full term as the case may

1require. The county assessor shall take the oath and give the
2bond herein required of other assessors and of supervisors of
3assessments and shall receive such compensation payable from
4the county treasury in an amount set by the county board. The
5amount so set shall not be changed during the term for which he
6or she is elected or appointed. The county assessor shall also
7have a suitable office to be provided by the county board.
