SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Richard P. Frisbie on August 28, 2018 at
4the age of 91; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Richard Frisbie was born in Moline on November 27,
61926, the son of C. Osborn and Pearl (Harrison) Frisbie; he
7grew up in the South Shore neighborhood of Chicago and attended
8St. Philip Neri School, where he was a member of Boy Scout
9Troop 504, played football, and was in the brass section of the
10orchestra; shortly after his 14th birthday, he debuted on "Quiz
11Kids", the popular 1940s and 1950s radio and TV show; he later
12graduated from St. Ignatius High School, where he lettered in
13football; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Richard Frisbie attended the University of
15Chicago until he was drafted into the U.S. Navy during World
16War II; after the war, he completed his undergraduate degree at
17the University of Arizona; and
 
18    WHEREAS, After graduation, Richard Frisbie began his
19career as a reporter and assistant feature editor for the
20"Chicago Daily News"; he met his wife of 68 years, Margery
21Rowbottom, while covering a story for the "Daily News" about
22the well-known defected Soviet spy Elizabeth Bentley at

1Chicago's Mundelein College, which had hired Bentley as a
2social studies teacher; he and Margery married in 1950 and
3together raised eight children; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Richard Frisbie left the "Daily News" and moved
5into the world of advertising, eventually becoming the creative
6director of Campbell Ewald's Chicago office; in 1966, he opened
7Richard Frisbie Communications, where he worked until he
8retired; he also was editor of "Chicago Magazine" from 1971
9until 1973 and a columnist for "Extension" magazine; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Richard Frisbie, with his wife Margery,
11co-authored the "Do-It-Yourself-Parent" in 1963; he also
12authored "Family Fun and Recreation" in 1964, "How to Peel A
13Sour Grape" in 1965, "Who Put the Bomb in Father Murphy's
14Chowder?" in 1968, and "Daily Meditations for Busy Grandpas" in
151998; his 1975 book, "Basic Boat Building" was based on a
16sailboat he built in his basement and garage and sailed for
17decades on Lake Michigan; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Richard Frisbie was a 44-year member and a past
19president of the Arlington Heights Memorial Library Board; he
20also served a term as president of the Illinois Center for the
21Book and was a longtime board member and a past president of
22the Society of Midland Authors; and

1    WHEREAS, Richard Frisbie, a true Renaissance man, was an
2avid amateur musician and played mandolin, piano, and trumpet;
3he was also a technology enthusiast, often providing tech help
4for family members; he was a noted outdoorsman and animal
5lover; additionally, both he and Margery were longtime
6activists in the Catholic Church and promoted social justice
7issues; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Richard Frisbie was preceded in death by his
9parents and his brother, William; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Richard Frisbie was the father of Felicity (Steve
11Sangenario) Frisbie, Anne (Michael) Malone, Thomas (Dodie)
12Frisbie, Ellen (Steve Quast) Frisbie, Paul Frisbie, Patrick
13(Mona) Frisbie, Teresa (Brian Lantz) Frisbie, and Margaret
14(Matt Binns) Frisbie, cherished grandfather of Philip
15Sangenario, Nora (Ryan Tetrick) Malone, Clare Malone, Timothy
16(Anne) Frisbie, Charles (Megan) Frisbie, Emily Frisbie,
17Christopher Quast, Annie Quast, Matthew Frisbie, Lauren
18Frisbie, Abigail Lantz, and Charlotte Lantz, great-grandfather
19of Juliet, Arden and Emmett, and dear brother of Peggy (the
20late Charles Thorpe) Frisbie and the late William (Lynette)
21Frisbie; therefore, be it
 
22    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
23ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of

1Richard P. Frisbie and extend our sincere condolences to his
2family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
3further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to the family of Richard Frisbie as an expression of
6our deepest sympathy.
