SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John C. Wood of Northbrook, who passed
4away on October 27, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Wood was born in Rensselaer, Indiana on June
69, 1920; he graduated from St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer,
7where he earned a degree in accounting; and
 
8    WHEREAS, John Wood retired from the Allstate Insurance
9Company as Assistant Controller in 1981 after 31 years of
10service; prior to working at Allstate, he was employed by
11Arthur Anderson in the Chicago Office; and
 
12    WHEREAS, John Wood was active in many civic and charitable
13activities; he was a member of the Northbrook Chamber of
14Commerce, where he served as a member of the board of
15directors; he was also a board member and served as treasurer
16of the North Suburban YMCA for over 25 years; he participated
17in the fund drive for the YMCA building and was president for
18one year; he was selected by the Northbrook Village President
19as the Northbrook Senior Citizen of the Year in 1996; he was a
20member of the American Cancer Society and served as chairman of
21the Northbrook Cancer Society golf outing for three years; for
22ten years, he organized an intergenerational golf tournament

1that featured Glenbrook North High School's varsity golf team
2and the senior citizens of Northbrook; he also served two terms
3as commissioner and one year as president of the Northbrook
4Park District; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Wood was a member of Our Lady of the Brook
6Catholic Church and also served as their business manager for
715 years; in his spare time, he enjoyed golfing, traveling, and
8investing; and
 
9    WHEREAS, John Wood was the beloved husband of 60 years of
10the late Mae (Carton) Wood, the loving father of John S.
11(Cynthia) Wood, the cherished grandfather of Annie and Michael
12Wood, the dear brother of Jan (the late John) Schlereth and
13Joseph (Madalyn) Wood, and the fond uncle of many nieces and
14nephews; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17John C. Wood and extend our sincere condolences to his family,
18friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of John Wood as an expression of our
21deepest sympathy.
