SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Gary T. Del Re of Mundelein, who passed
4away on October 28, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gary Del Re was born in Chicago, the second of
6three sons, to Ken and Dolores (Deutsch) Del Re on August 26,
71949; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Gary Del Re was a career first responder and rose
9from patrolman to the rank of Commander with the Village of
10Buffalo Grove Police Department; he was later appointed and
11elected Sheriff of Lake County in 1998 and again in 2002; he
12was an innovative law enforcement officer and served as the
13founding Commander of the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force,
14which was created in 1992 and continues to solve high-profile
15crimes; during this time, he also earned his bachelor's degree
16and master's degree and taught at the Northwestern University
17Center for Public Safety; he served the residents of northern
18Cook and Lake Counties for over 30 years; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Gary Del Re was known for his humor and his
20encyclopedic knowledge of the Civil War, American presidents,
21the political process, and Abraham Lincoln; he was a voracious
22reader and would retell history with an intimate detail that

1kept even his youngest grandchild captivated; most of all, he
2was humble, kind, and gracious; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Gary Del Re was preceded in death by his father,
4Kenneth and his wife Sandra; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gary Del Re is survived by his mother, Dolores;
6his brothers, Ken (Jessica) and Phillip (Susan); his sons, Gary
7Jr. and David (Jordan); his grandchildren, Hunter, Tyler,
8Colsen, and Sheridan; his loving family, Hank Dybal and Wray
9(Dawn) Dybal and children, Amanda and Zachary; his nieces and
10nephews, Angel, Amy, David, Jonathan, Sarah, and Joseph; his
11best friend, Amy; and his dachshund, Brutus; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14Gary T. Del Re and extend our sincere condolences to his
15family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Gary Del Re as an expression of our
19deepest sympathy.
