SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Helen M. Hawkins of Granite City, who
4passed away on September 6, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Helen Hawkins was born in Detroit, Michigan to
6Arthur and Elsie (Sloan) Varley on December 21, 1929; she
7married Dr. Hubert A. Hawkins on September 23, 1947; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Helen Hawkins was the Nameoki Township Clerk for
9over 25 years; she was a Madison County Board Member since 2002
10and an honorary board member of the Metro East Sanitary
11District; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Helen Hawkins was a member of the Chouteau
13Township Senior Citizens; in January of 2018, she was inducted
14into the Illinois Senior Citizens Hall of Fame by the Illinois
15Department of Aging; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Helen Hawkins was a member of the American Legion
17Women's Auxiliary and the VFW Women's Auxiliary; she promoted
18the Valentines for Vets program; she was an active member of
19St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City and enjoyed
20spending time with her family and friends; and

1    WHEREAS, Helen Hawkins was preceded in death by her
2parents; her husband, Hubert; her granddaughter, Grace Anne
3Oehler; and her brother, Will Varley; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Helen Hawkins is survived by her children, Debra
5(Bill) Oehler and Dr. Mark (Janie) Hawkins; her grandchildren,
6Amanda Hawkins (Mehdi Tazi), Taylor Hawkins, Alyssa Hawkins,
7Heidi Oehler, and Gabriel Oehler; her great-grandchildren,
8Jaiden Tazi and Zaina Tazi; and her sister, Winnie Christmas;
9therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Helen M. Hawkins, and extend our sincere condolences to her
13family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Helen Hawkins as an expression of
17our deepest sympathy.
