SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Thomas Edward "Tom" Mulligan Jr.,
4formerly of Bloomington, who passed away on July 8, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Tom Mulligan was born in Glen Ellyn to Mildred
6Patch and Thomas Edward Mulligan Sr. on March 27, 1927; he
7graduated from Glenbard High School and served in the U.S. Army
8from June of 1945 to November of 1946; he attended Albion
9College in Michigan and graduated from the University of
10Michigan in 1951 with an accounting degree; he married Alice
11Weaver Fairbank on July 26, 1952; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Tom Mulligan was a certified public accountant and
13had a long career with FS Services (later Growmark); he moved
14to Bloomington with the company when it relocated its corporate
15headquarters and rose through the ranks, retiring as chief
16financial officer in 1986; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Tom Mulligan was a member of the Second
18Presbyterian Church and served in the finance office and as a
19trustee; he was involved on various foundation boards,
20including the United Way of Bloomington-Normal and the Western
21Avenue Community Center; and

1    WHEREAS, Tom Mulligan enjoyed golf and tennis throughout
2much of his life and had four holes-in-one; he and Alice
3enjoyed traveling and took their children to visit national
4parks across the U.S.; they spent many winters in their Tucson
5home and easily made friends; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Tom Mulligan loved being a grandparent and wanted
7his family's bonds to endure, taking family trips and building
8a family haven at Green Lake, Wisconsin in 1978; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Tom Mulligan is survived by his children, Jeannie
10Mulligan (Jim) Swanson, Bill (Peggy) Mulligan, and Nancy
11Mulligan (Kent) Anderson; his grandchildren, Carrie and
12Michael (Falohn) Swanson, Melissa Swanson (Andy) Juvinall,
13Katie, Danny, and Kelly Mulligan, Jenny Anderson (Brock)
14Buttrick, and Brandt and David Anderson; his sister, Carolyn
15(Phil) Guhl; and five great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Thomas Edward "Tom" Mulligan Jr., and extend our sincere
19condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
20him; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Tom Mulligan as an expression of our
