SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Gladys Piat, who passed away on June 2,
42018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gladys Piat was born in Granton, Wisconsin to Anna
6and Herman Riedel; she moved to Illinois and received a
7secretarial certificate from Lake Forest College and a nursing
8certificate from St. Therese Hospital; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Gladys Piat started her career as an executive
10secretary at Abbott Laboratories before leaving to raise her
11family; she then worked for several Waukegan physicians and
12area firms as a bookkeeper; and
 
13    WHEREAS, In retirement, beginning in 1980, Gladys Piat
14enjoyed volunteering at Vista Hospital with her husband,
15Walter; she most recently knitted caps for newborn babies; for
16over 65 years, she was a faithful member of Trinity United
17Church where she served in many capacities; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Gladys Piat was preceded in death by her parents;
19her son, David; her sisters, Gertrude, Frances, Lovella,
20Adelma, and Florence; and her brothers, Harold and Herman; and

1    WHEREAS, Gladys Piat is survived by her sons, Vince (Cheri)
2and Michael; her daughter-in-law, Jane; her sisters, Dolores
3and Ione; her grandchildren, Michelle (Mark) Donnelly, Caitlin
4(Jeff) Thompson, Benjamin Piat, Daniel and Jonathon Piat, and
5Zach Kalk; her great-grandchildren, Finn and Beckett Donnelly,
6Theodore Chandler, and Harrison Thompson; and Ben's
7girlfriend, Caitlin Talbot, and her daughter, Jade Lunsford;
8therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Gladys Piat, and extend our sincere condolences to her family,
12friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Gladys Piat as an expression of our
15deepest sympathy.
