SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Judith "Jude" Garrett, who passed away on
4February 23, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jude Garrett was born in Manjimup, Western
6Australia to James and Mary Unsworth on April 9, 1932; the
7Unsworth family was greatly affected by World War II; her
8father became a Japanese prisoner of war and survived years of
9torture and neglect only to die shortly after returning home;
10after the war, she served in the Australian Citizen Military
11Forces Nursing Core, where she earned the rank of sergeant; she
12left Australia on a tour around the world in 1956; while in
13Vancouver BC, she met Robert (Bob) Garrett, and they married on
14July 6, 1957; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Jude Garrett moved to Chicago to begin her life in
16the United States with her husband's family while he finished
17his tour in the Navy; In 1966, she, her husband, and their
18three children then lived in Australia with the extended
19Unsworth family; in 1972, they returned to the United States
20and established their home in Mt. Prospect; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Jude Garrett worked for AM Multigraphics and then
22for Bang and Olufsen of America; and

1    WHEREAS, In 2008, Jude Garrett was honored with the
2Australian Defense Medal in recognition of her service; she was
3a member of St. Emily's Catholic Church; she enjoyed reading,
4writing letters, knitting, and crocheting; she went through
5hundreds of skeins of yarn and produced many heirloom pieces
6for her family; she was hardworking, diligent, ruggedly
7independent, and patient; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Jude Garrett was preceded in death by her husband,
9Robert; her infant child, Mary; her son-in-law, Timothy
10Cunningham; her parents; and her brothers, James and Peter
11Unsworth; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Jude Garrett is survived by her children, Matthew
13(Becky) Garrett, Loreen (Jeff) Letzter, and Lynette Garrett;
14her grandchildren, Kaley (Joe), Tony (Angela), Jenna
15(Michael), Robert, Andy, Claire (Tony), Gabrielle (Jonathan),
16Kelsey, and Brian; and her great-grandchildren, Elise, Ava, and
17Bentley; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
20Judith "Jude" Garrett and extend our sincere condolences to her
21family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
