SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of Helen L. Dunn of Joliet, who passed away 
4on January 11, 2018 at the age of 104; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Helen Dunn was born in Chicago to Herman and 
6Kathryn (Hogan) Lemke on November 7, 1913; she was raised in 
7Oak Park and graduated from  Rosary College, now Dominican 
8University; she married Francis A. Dunn at the Log Chapel at 
9Notre Dame in October of 1936; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, Helen Dunn was a world traveler; she loved Paris 
11in the spring and once met Pope John Paul II at the Vatican; 
12she  enjoyed spending winters in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and 
13spent countless summers on the shores of Lake Michigan in 
14Michigan City, Indiana, where she enjoyed fireworks with her 
15grandchildren, drives to Three Oaks, ice cream, and reading the 
16papers on warm afternoons; she was a born storyteller and was 
17known for her Irish wit and the keeping of family and world 
18news; she had an impeccable sense of style and was a voracious 
19reader; she regularly sent all her friends and family 
20handwritten letters; and
  
 
21    WHEREAS, Helen Dunn was affectionately known as "Mimi"; she 
22was truly one of a kind and will be deeply missed by all,

1especially, her loved ones, who treasure the lifetime of 
2stories, advice, mischief, and love she gave as the matriarch 
3of their family; and
  
 
4    WHEREAS, Helen Dunn was preceded in death by her husband, 
5Francis; her sister, Dolly Young; and her brother, Robert; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Helen Dunn is survived by her daughter, Geraldine 
7Leinenweber; and Geraldine's  children and grandchildren, Jane 
8(Campeau), Robert, Sarah, Andrew, Shannon, John (Tara), Jack, 
9Simone, Cora, Thomas (Martha), Katie, Tommy, Peter, Mary, 
10Betsy, Annie, Stephen (Sonya) Beckett, Isabel, Justin 
11(Jennifer), and Harry; and Helen's son, Thomas (Bonnie); and 
12their children and  grandchildren, Meagan (Eric), Moira, Kiely 
13(Geoffrey), Cecilia, and Luella; therefore, be it
  
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL 
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
16Helen L. Dunn, and extend our sincere condolences to her 
17family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it 
18further
  
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
20presented to  the family of  Helen Dunn as an expression of our 
21deepest sympathy.
