SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Marijule S. Shields of Harvard, who
4passed away on September 19, 2017 at the age of 101; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Marijule Shields was born in Harvard to Edward and
6Pearl (Waters) Strain on March 30, 1916; she attended St.
7Joseph's School in Harvard and graduated from Harvard High
8School in 1934; she attended the University of Wisconsin in
9Whitewater and married Joseph R. Shields at St. Joseph Catholic
10Church in Harvard on June 21, 1939; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Marijule Shields played a major role as advisor
12and hostess for her husband throughout his years in business
13and civic organizations; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Marijule Shields was active in several book and
15golf organizations and was an accomplished bridge player; she
16was a loving mother and grandmother who thought of everyone
17else above herself; she was a member of St. Joseph Catholic
18Church, a member of Daughters of Isabella, and a Brownie and
19Girl Scout leader for many years in Harvard; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Marijule Shields was preceded in death by her
21parents; her husband, Joe; and her sister, Kathy Smith; and

1    WHEREAS, Marijule Shields is survived by her children,
2Barbara (Kirk) McComb, Karyl (James) Glass, Michael Shields,
3Ray (Roberta) Shields, and Patricia (Frank) Novel; 10
4grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two
5great-great-grandchildren on the way; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
8Marijule S. Shields, and extend our sincere condolences to her
9family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
10further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Marijule Shields as an expression of
13our deepest sympathy.
