2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Mary Louise Barr of Wood River, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on July 25, 2017; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Mary Barr was born in St. Louis, Missouri to Helen | ||||||
6 | (Diederich) and Henry Louis Dahm on February 11, 1922; she | ||||||
7 | attended St. Ann Catholic Grade School in Normandy, Missouri | ||||||
8 | and then Incarnate Word Academy in Normandy for two years; she | ||||||
9 | graduated from Nerinx Hall High School in Webster Groves, | ||||||
10 | Missouri and cum laude from St. Mary's College in Notre Dame, | ||||||
11 | Indiana in 1943 with a degree in English and a minor in | ||||||
12 | journalism; she married Joseph James Barr at St. Ann Catholic | ||||||
13 | Church in Normandy on September 25, 1945; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Mary Barr was a member of St. Bernard Catholic | ||||||
15 | Church (now Holy Angels Parish) since 1945; she was active in | ||||||
16 | the Parent Teacher Association at St. Bernard School, | ||||||
17 | organizing the first band and substitute teaching; she was an | ||||||
18 | original member of the Daughters of Isabella and a longtime | ||||||
19 | member of the St. Anne Altar Society; she volunteered her time | ||||||
20 | to play piano at the local nursing homes, teach the Rite of | ||||||
21 | Christian Initiation of Adults, and lead prayer groups at | ||||||
22 | church; in 2012, she was designated the "Woman of Distinction" | ||||||
23 | of that parish; and

1 | WHEREAS, Mary Barr assisted her husband in his re-election | ||||||
2 | campaigns as a Madison County Circuit Judge throughout his | ||||||
3 | career; she was a loving mother, grandmother, and aunt, and a | ||||||
4 | dear friend to all who knew her; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Mary Barr was preceded in death by her husband, | ||||||
6 | Joseph; her parents; her children who died in infancy, Michael | ||||||
7 | Lewis, John Robert, Ann Marie, and Theresa Ann; her brothers, | ||||||
8 | Henry L. Dahm Jr. and John V. Dahm; her brothers-in-law, Bruce | ||||||
9 | Newman and Thomas Kenney; and her sisters-in-law, Marjorie | ||||||
10 | Mossman Kenney (Barr) and Joyce Dahm; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Mary Barr is survived by her children, Joseph E. | ||||||
12 | (Jacqueline) Barr, James P. Barr, Mary E. (Donald) Elliott, | ||||||
13 | Patricia A. (Ronald) Fulks, and Janet S. (Stephen) Hoelscher; | ||||||
14 | 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; her sister, Helen | ||||||
15 | Newman; and her sister-in-law, Kathy Dahm; therefore, be it
| ||||||
16 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
17 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
18 | Mary Louise Barr, and extend our sincere condolences to her | ||||||
19 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
20 | further
