SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Major Frank J. "Coach" Luzenske USMC
4Reserve (Ret.) of Danville, who passed away on June 14, 2017;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Major Luzenske was born in Granite City to Frank
7Theodore and Margaret Alice (Keeler) Luzenske on March 12,
81933; he served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve for
941 years; he served at Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, California
10and at Twentynine Palms, California, where he trained for air
11and ground combat before moving to officer training; he also
12served at the Marine Corps Air Facility at Quantico, Virginia
13and the Marine Corps Outlying Field Camp base at Camp Lejeune,
14North Carolina; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Major Luzenske attended college while serving in
16the military; he graduated from William Jewel College in
17Liberty, Missouri and earned his master's degree from Indiana
18State University; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Major Luzenske started his teaching and coaching
20career at Oakwood High School, later moving to Danville High
21School (DHS) to teach and coach; he coached wrestling,
22swimming, and football; he was active on the football field up

1until 2015; he also taught history, ran the WECEP program and
2was instrumental in starting the Fellowship of Christian
3Athletes; on the radio, he was part of the "Community
4Connection" morning show and the weekly "School Time" show in
5which he was able to highlight Vermilion County's youth; he was
6famous for bringing sweets to the secretaries and staff at DHS,
7his YMCA family, and his favorite, the students of the
8Alternative Program, now known as Kenneth D. Bailey Academy;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, Major Luzenske always supported the Marines and
11was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Major Luzenske was preceded in death by his
13parents; his sister, Margie Ramer; shortly after his passing,
14his son, Michael J. Luzenske, passed away; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Major Luzenske is survived by his daughter, Debra
16J. (Steve) Strader; his grandchildren, Jacob (Meredith)
17Strader, Justin (Abbi) Strader, Jenna (Greg) Butler, Ryan
18Luzenske, and Alie Luzenske; and his great-grandchildren,
19Mason, Carter, Braxton, Gia, Nora, Lola, Brylee, and Brewer
20Mae; therefore, be it
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
22ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of

2our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who
3knew and loved him; and be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be

6our deepest sympathy.
