SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Walter "Walley" John Sczygielski of
4Gurnee, who passed away on June 5, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Walter Sczygielski was born in Waukegan on May 4,
61941; he graduated from Immaculate Conception Grade School and
7Waukegan High School; he married Elizabeth (Bettie) Schultz at
8Holy Rosary Church in 1966 and they happily celebrated 50 years
9of marriage in September of 2016; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Walter Sczygielski worked for 42 years before
11retiring as the crew leader at the Commonwealth Edison Company;
12he would oftentimes drive around Lake County, pointing out
13various buildings that he and his crew outfitted with
14electricity during those years; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Walter Sczygielski was very proud of his Polish
16heritage and enjoyed participating in cultural activities; he
17could dance a mean polka and was surprised on his 70th birthday
18by his family and friends with a Polish-themed birthday
19celebration; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Walter Sczygielski was a dedicated member of the
21Knights of Columbus Council #731 in Waukegan for 35 years and a

1Sir Knight of Bishop Quarter Assembly #197; he was involved
2with the Knights of Columbus through fundraisers such as fish
3frys, Tootsie Roll drives, golf outings, and Polish nights; he
4volunteered his time for many local causes, including student
5athletics, animal rescue, political campaigns, and religious
6organizations; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Walter Sczygielski enjoyed playing golf, going to
8Broadway shows, walking his dog, Oliver, and engaging in lively
9conversation; he had many talents and interests, one of which
10he enjoyed most was helping others; he would easily drop
11anything for a friend or family member in need and his loyalty,
12compassion, and competitiveness will never be forgotten; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Walter Sczygielski is survived by his children,
14Lauren (Daniel) Anders and Andrew (Megan); and his
15grandchildren, William, Claire, Anna, Maura, and Thomas;
16therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
19Walter "Walley" John Sczygielski, and extend our sincere
20condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
21him; and be it further
 
22    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
