SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
20 ILCS 2610/23  from Ch. 121, par. 307.18d

    Amends the State Police Act. Provides that on and after the effective date of the bill, the Director of State Police shall not appoint auxiliary State policemen. Repeals provisions concerning auxiliary State policemen to make conforming changes.

1    AN ACT concerning State government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The State Police Act is amended by changing
5Section 23 as follows:
 
6    (20 ILCS 2610/23)  (from Ch. 121, par. 307.18d)
7    Sec. 23. Auxiliary State policemen. On and after the
8effective date of this amendatory Act of the 100th General
9Assembly, the The Director shall not may appoint auxiliary
10State policemen in such number as he deems necessary. Such
11auxiliary policemen shall not be regular State policemen. Such
12auxiliary State policemen shall not supplement members of the
13regular State police in the performance of their assigned and
14normal duties, except as otherwise provided herein. Such
15auxiliary State policemen shall only be assigned to perform the
16following duties: to aid or direct traffic, to aid in control
17of natural or man made disasters, or to aid in case of civil
18disorder as directed by the commanding officers.
19Identification symbols worn by such auxiliary State policemen
20shall be different and distinct from those used by State
21policemen. Such auxiliary State policemen shall at all times
22during the performance of their duties be subject to the
23direction and control of the commanding officer. Such auxiliary

1State policemen shall not carry firearms.
2    Auxiliary State policemen, prior to entering upon any of
3their duties, shall receive a course of training in such police
4procedures as shall be appropriate in the exercise of the
5powers conferred upon them, which training and course of study
6shall be determined and provided by the Department of State
7Police. Prior to the appointment of any auxiliary State
8policeman his fingerprints shall be taken and no person shall
9be appointed as such auxiliary State policeman if he has been
10convicted of a felony or other crime involving moral turpitude.
11    All auxiliary State policemen shall be between the age of
1221 and 60 years, and shall serve without compensation.
13    The Line of Duty Compensation Act shall be applicable to
14auxiliary State policemen appointed before this amendatory Act
15of the 100th General Assembly upon their death in the line of
16duty described herein.
