HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Dr.
4Albert G. Bledig, who passed away on December 24, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Originally from Galatia, Dr. Albert Bledig
6attended the University of Illinois for both undergraduate
7studies and medical school; he completed an internship at
8Illinois Central Hospital in Chicago and served as a Captain in
9the United States Army, in medical services, before entering
10private practice in Eldorado; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Dr. Albert Bledig was certified as a Charter
12Member of the American Board of Family Medicine in 1971, and he
13was committed to maintaining that rigorous distinction every
14seven years throughout his career; he earned many honors for
15his medical service, including the Physician of Excellence
16Award from the Illinois Rural Health Association; he was also
17selected as one of America's Top Family Doctors by the
18Consumers' Research Council of America; and
 
19    WHEREAS, In addition to delivering health care, Dr. Albert
20Bledig also served the community in a variety of civic roles;
21he was a member of the Eldorado School Board and the SIC Board
22of Trustees; he also served on the Board of Directors for

1Ferrell Hospital and Fountainview Nursing Home; he was a member
2of the First Presbyterian Church of Eldorado, where he was a
3longtime member of the choir; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Dr. Albert Bledig was devoted to his profession
5and his patients, but his greatest joy was spending time with
6his family; he enjoyed family vacations, trips in their motor
7home, boating and relaxing at their lake house, and attending
8his children and grandchildren's functions; he loved baseball
9and was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Dr. Albert Bledig was preceded in death by his
11parents, Fanno and Rose Bledig; and his brother-in-law, Jim
12Knight; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Dr. Albert Bledig is survived by his wife of 60
14years, Alice; his children, Sara Griffeth (Bob), Stefan Bledig,
15and Sallie Ash (Jim); his seven grandchildren; his
16great-grandchild; his sister, Anna Lee Knight; his
17brothers-in-law, Franklin Kube (Janet) and John Kube (Diane);
18and his many nieces and nephews; and
 
19    WHEREAS, In the era of the "specialization" of medical
20practice, Dr. Albert Bledig was truly special; while he could
21have gone the route of many others and headed for the culture
22and high society of the city, Dr. Bledig remained firm in his

1desire to stay planted where he was rooted; instead of seeking
2a career elsewhere, he chose to serve the people of Eldorado,
3and they returned the favor with undying loyalty and
4admiration; he was even know to accept calls at his home during
5a crisis, a precious, almost extinct benefit of small-town
6living and of knowing a physician like Dr. B; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Dr. Albert Bledig was a true home-town doctor,
8trusted and loved, unpretentious, knowledgeable and skillful,
9without haughtiness, friendly and warm, who shared in his
10patent's joys and sorrows as they grew older together; once
11when Dr. B had been ill, a young boy went with his mother to
12purchase a get well card for their family doctor; she was in
13the "Get Well" section, but the boy said, "Shouldn't we be in
14the 'Friend' section?"; that statement captures perfectly the
15area's genuine feelings for Dr. B; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
17HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
18mourn the passing of Dr. Albert G. Bledig and extend our
19sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
20and loved him; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Dr. Albert Bledig as an expression
23of our deepest sympathy.
