HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Reverend
4Marcethia Lynette Scales, who passed away on May 13, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Reverend Scales was born in Chicago to Marcel
6Martin and Margaret Peterson on May 2, 1961; early in life, she
7taught herself how to play the piano and keyboard, and she
8committed to her faith at the First Baptist Church in Melrose
9Park under the leadership of the Reverend Henry McNelty; she
10graduated from John Marshall High School and then pursued a
11degree in mathematics at the Florida Institute of Technology;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, Reverend Scales was employed at the McDonald
14Corporation in Oakbrook for many years; she later moved on to
15Hendrickson Bumper & Steel, a Bohler Company, in Joliet, where
16she was a devoted and enthusiastic employee; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Reverend Scales joined the Christian Unity
18Missionary Baptist Church (CUC) in Bellwood under the
19leadership of Pastor Willie B. Dugan in 1993; she was ordained
20as a minister of the Gospel on October 24, 2001; with her
21strong passion to serve at her home church, she taught Sunday
22School, was a member of the Ministerial staff, a prayer

1warrior, and president of the choir, as well as part of the
2King Daughters Ministry, and the Shepherd's Ministry; through
3her sermons, prayers, and songs, she uplifted many spirits and
4led many closer to their faith; she never hesitated to go
5beyond the call of duty to serve and assist whenever and
6wherever she could; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Reverend Scales was awarded the King Daughters
8Remarkable Woman Award in 2017; she enjoyed sewing, embroidery,
9and spending time with her family; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Reverend Scales was preceded in death by her
11grandparents, Isaac and Lucille Underwood; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Reverend Scales is survived by her mother,
13Margaret Holmes; her son, James Sean Scales; her sisters,
14Rosalind Holder, Eva (Darryl) Holder, and Jimmette (Robbie)
15Barkley; her special friend, Brandon Barker; her CUC family;
16and her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews,
17cousins, relatives, and friends; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
19HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
20mourn the passing of Reverend Marcethia Lynette Scales and
21extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all
22who knew and loved her; and be it further

3our deepest sympathy.
