HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to recognize Barbara J. Williams on 28
4years of dedicated service to the Village of Vernon Hills; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Barbara Williams served as Village Trustee from
61981 to 1989; in 1989, she was elected Village President,
7serving until 1993; in 2001, she once more was elected as
8Village Trustee; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Barbara Williams was instrumental in bringing
10Metra train service to Vernon Hills; and
 
11    WHEREAS, During her tenure, Barbara Williams witnessed the
12construction of the village hall; the Vernon Hills High School;
13the Aspen Drive Library; the Vernon Hills Post Office;
14expansion and remodeling of the police department and public
15works buildings; development of the Gregg's Landing and AMLI at
16Museum Gardens; expansion of Hawthorn Mall; Aspen Pointe; the
17Shoppes at Gregg's Landing; the extension of Fairway Drive; the
18construction of affordable senior housing at Victory Center;
19the Village's contributions to Vernon Hills Park District to
20expand Century Park, renovate the Kids Kastle playground, and
21acquire the Lakeview Fitness Center; and implementation of the
22Village's strategic plans; and

1    WHEREAS, Barbara Williams supported economic development
2activities that resulted in the Vernon Hills Town Center and
3the Mellody Farm TIF Districts, and the use of multiple
4economic incentive agreements to strengthen the retail base;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, As a trustee, Barbara Williams worked with her
7fellow board members to maintain a strong Village budget and to
8fund a reserve that resulted in the Village achieving an AAA
9bond rating from Moody's and Standard and Poor's, and never had
10to levy a property tax; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Barbara Williams recognized the importance of
12having a highly trained workforce at all levels and was
13supportive of professional development and ensuring that
14employees had the knowledge and equipment to do their jobs when
15assisting residents and customers; and
 
16    WHEREAS, During her years of service, Barbara Williams also
17developed a keen eye for signage and logos that ensured new
18signs were placed in keeping with the character of the Village;
19and
 
20    WHEREAS, Barbara Williams plans to move to North Carolina
21to be close to her daughter, Cindy, her son-in-law, Dan, and

1her beloved grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
2    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
3HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
4recognize Barbara J. Williams on 28 years of dedicated service
5to the Village of Vernon Hills, and we wish her the best in all
6her future endeavors; and be it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to Barbara Williams as a symbol of our respect and
9esteem.
