HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The health and well-being of women in the State of
3Illinois is a top priority; the health and education of women
4is directly linked to improved social well-being for the entire
5community; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Sexual education can help prevent sexually
7transmitted infections (STIs) and prevent unwanted and teenage
8pregnancies; frequent screening for cancer is one of the best
9ways to diagnose early and prevent fatal cancer; and
 
10    WHEREAS, The reproductive rights of women and their ability
11to make their own decisions about how to take care of their own
12bodies should be protected; access to education and medical
13services regarding sexual health is one of those rights; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Planned Parenthood provides safe, affordable, and
15women-centered healthcare services; one in five women in the
16United States will utilize the services of Planned Parenthood
17at least once; no federal monies actually fund abortions at
18Planned Parenthood, and Medicaid is restricted to only covering
19abortions of pregnancies due to rape or incest, or if the life
20of the mother is at risk; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Planned Parenthood provides much needed services

1to women, including preventative and primary care to prevent
2and treat sexually transmitted diseases; Planned Parenthood
3provides the indispensable service of screening for cervical
4and other cancers; Planned Parenthood educates the community on
5safe sex practices and reproductive health to prevent STIs;
6therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
8HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
9urge the United States Congress to continue to fund Planned
10Parenthood; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
12delivered to President Donald Trump, Senate Majority Leader
13Mitch McConnell, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, Speaker
14of the House Paul Ryan, House of Representatives Minority
15Leader Nancy Pelosi, and all members of the Illinois
16Congressional Delegation.
