SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
10 ILCS 5/3-4  from Ch. 46, par. 3-4

    Amends the Election Code. Provides that no patient who has resided for less than 180 days in any hospital or mental institution (rather than no patient of any hospital or mental institution) in the State shall by virtue of his or her abode at the hospital be deemed a resident or legal voter in an election district in which the hospital or mental institution is situated. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning elections.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Election Code is amended by changing Section
53-4 as follows:
 
6    (10 ILCS 5/3-4)  (from Ch. 46, par. 3-4)
7    Sec. 3-4. No patient who has resided for less than 180 days
8in of any hospital or mental institution in this State, shall
9by virtue of his abode at such hospital or mental institution
10be deemed a resident or legal voter in the town, city, village
11or election district or precinct in which such hospital or
12mental institution may be situated; but every such person shall
13be deemed a resident of the town, city, village or election
14district or precinct in which he resided next prior to becoming
15a patient of such hospital or mental institution. However, the
16term "hospital" does not include skilled nursing facilities.

18    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
19becoming law.
