AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 608

2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 608 by replacing
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:
 
4    "Section 1. Legislative intent. It is hereby declared as
5the intent of this amendatory Act of the 100th General Assembly
6to promote consolidation of redundant layers of government and
7to promote government efficiency.
 
8    Section 5. The Illinois Highway Code is amended by changing
9Section 6-130 as follows:
 
10    (605 ILCS 5/6-130)  (from Ch. 121, par. 6-130)
11    Sec. 6-130. Notwithstanding any other provision of this
12Code Act to the contrary, no township road district may
13continue in existence if the roads forming a part of the
14district do not exceed a total of 4 centerline miles in length.
15For purposes of this Section, the roads forming a part of a

1township road district include those roads maintained by the
2district, regardless of whether or not those roads are owned by
3the township. On the first Tuesday in April of 1975, or of any
4subsequent year next succeeding the reduction of a township
5road system to a total mileage of 4 centerline miles or less,
6each such township road district shall, by operation of law, be
7abolished. The roads comprising that district at that time
8shall thereafter be administered by the township board of
9trustees by contracting with the county, a municipality or a
10private contractor. The township board of trustees shall assume
11all taxing authority of a township road district abolished
12under this Section.
